This site is currently being redeveloped. Although it will work fine it will continue to look terrible for a while yet. Sorry!

About that Saturday working … I, like many people who have worked in retail, have been subject to an employment contract where I worked alternate weeks of Monday-Friday and Tuesday-Saturday, and though it wasn't always OK to have a single-day 'weekend' every fortnight it meant one could plan and, overall, work reasonable hours.

As I understand it, however, the Hunt plan is that experienced-but-still-learning Doctors should be forced to work on every day of the week with no guarantees of advance planning. This is, indeed, proven by his statement that there would be an extra payment if they work three Saturdays in a row.

We all know that we get tired if we work for long periods without a break. Drivers of trucks and buses have time limits placed upon them because the risk of accidents increases with the time they spend concentrating on safely manoeuvring their vehicles - it is so much more dangerous for medical staff to be over-extended therefore!

I _still_ support the 'junior' doctors in their struggle against this attempt by the Tories to privatise the UK's health service.

Calling them 'Junior' does them a disservice. All it means is "not Consultant".
Yes, I know that this is about England's doctors, but it will spread
